Life two years after last seeing my sister | A vida 2 anos após ver a minha irmã pela última vez

Hello folks! (Português embaixo)

I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year! I’m currently in Finland and having a blast with family, relatives and friends, not to mention a pretty cold weather with snow! The last time it was like this was years and years ago.

Home sweet none | Lar doce ar

Hello peeps! (Em português embaixo.)

The favourite question people seem to like to ask me wherever I go is “where is home for you?”. Up until now, I’ve been kinda perplexed by the amount of confusion that starts tumbling around in my head every time I get asked this question. Surely, after having moved around so much, this question shouldn’t catch me by surprise? I think I might have just gotten the answer to this, as there’s apparently a group of people to which I belong and didn’t even know about! Continue reading “Home sweet none | Lar doce ar”

Growing up in Brazil | Crescer no Brasil

Hello folks! (tradução embaixo)

As the Czech proverb goes,

“You live a new life for every new language you speak. If you know only one language, you live only once.”

Last week, I did something I could not have imagined myself doing even a year ago. I held a presentation in Portuguese for the first time in my life! It was about my thesis project in general, so sure, a subject I am comfortable with… in English. It made me realise something I kind of had forgotten about.

And yes, the picture should say “you live a new life”.

A globetrotter’s dilemma: Celebrate or not? | O dilema dos globetrotters: Comemorar ou não?

Hello folks! Happy Walpurgis! (Swedish: Vappen, Finnish: Vappu) (Tradução em baixo)

Today, April 30, and tomorrow, May 1, some of us in Europe celebrate what’s known as Walpurgis! This is one of the four largest celebrations in Finland, and it is particularly celebrated by students (unfortunately, usually with way too much booze). This brings up the question, to celebrate or not to celebrate? Continue reading “A globetrotter’s dilemma: Celebrate or not? | O dilema dos globetrotters: Comemorar ou não?”

Funny things from around the world | Coisas engraçadas do mundo

Hey folks! I thought I’d share some things I have taken photos of from around the world, which are, due to mistranslations, misspelling or even deliberate! Some things may only apply to certain languages, but the majority you’ll understand!

Back in Brazil! | De volta ao Brasil!

Hi all! (tradução abaixo)

I hope you’re having a great start of the year. As some of you may know, I am now officially back in Brazil, after having spent my Christmas holidays/part of my summer holidays in The Netherlands. I intended to write much more when I was there, but due to various things, I didn’t find the time or the energy for this. Continue reading…

Merry Christmas from A Chris in The Netherlands!

Hi and Merry Christmas! (Tradução abaixo.) Indeed, I’m no longer in Brazil for this year, but in The Netherlands, where I used to live for a long time. My family is still here, and I’ll be celebrating Christmas with them and some others. Unfortunately there is no snow, so it’ll have to be an “I’m dreaming of a White Christmas”. As I know most of you have other things to do today, I’ll end it here with a video of my first Christmas, which was in Hong Kong back when I still spoke Chinese! (Ps. you have no idea how weird it is hearing yourself speak a language you can’t understand anymore!)

Finished, confused, relieved, Stockholm Syndrome| Acabou, confuso, aliviado, Síndrome de Estocolmo

Hi all! (tradução abaixo)

So… where should I start? Maybe the title? And no, I haven’t been kidnapped, but I’ll explain in a moment! Firstly, today marks my first day of holiday… kind of. I still have one more programming assignment to do and hand in, but no more lessons, no more tests, and no more obligation to go to campus this year! It’s been a few crazy end-of-year weeks lately, and I’ve barely had any sleep, fun or time to remember how to breathe. Up in the morning 7-8, home 18-19 o’clock, study and work until 2am.
